Velocirapture

Velocirapture is another out-there game from Adult Swim that centers on the popular Jesus-Raptor meme. It’s fun, frantic and has the wacky mentality that Adult Swim audiences crave.

Gameplay is easy enough. Red dinosaurs are bad. Green dinosaurs are good. With a well-timed slash of the finger alla Fruit Ninja, shoot lightning from your God’s Hand down on the red bad dinosaurs while hurling the green dinos up to save them. Keep your “grace” meter up to survive while comboing chains of kills/saves to earn big points. Do things correctly and you get super powers that unleash unheralded destruction on your aggressors.

There is a lot to like about this game. The overall funny theme, the simplistic yet addicting gameplay, the multiple modes (story, time trials, etc.) and the low cost of the whole package for only a buck. With no ads stopping gameplay every minute or so like so many other games, it’s refreshing to see such a complete package from a major source for so cheap and with no additional caveats.

Leaping from the success of Unicorn Attack, Velocirapture is a cleverly defined meme-based goof fest that right from the onset tests your finger-flicking skills, allows you to track scores and compare, and generally immerse your inner-internet nerd in that insane-comedy soup that has defined Adult Swim as a trailblazer.

Although Adult Swim doesn’t re-invent the wheel in terms of gaming apps, they do give a whole-hardheartedly solid (and cheap!) entry into a jammed packed, and sometimes overly expensive, medium.
