Cover Orange HD is a crafty puzzler that is an example of what makes for some of the best in the genre: a simple premise with a masterful stroke of challenge and ingenuity.
Gameplay in Cover Orange is very easy. You drop barrels, wheels, boxes and other objects in order to provide cover for a weary orange and his ilk. Out comes mean Mr. Cloud who drops little black death balls from above. If you didn’t position your objects correctly, your orange is juiced. Bombs, beams, ramps and other structures litter each level and add a healthy dose of variety to each unique challenge.
The only complaint I had against the game was that the graphics and overall presentation are extremely childish. Big-eyed birds and other furry critters litter the landscape and the end result is it feels like you’re playing a game set in Candyland. Although this will open the game up for everyone from 8 to 80, I felt like the aesthetics aren’t geared towards your average gamer who tends to enjoy serious explosions and either characters with a sense of seriousness or humor, not unnerved oranges and Sesame Street-esque enemies.
Those that can look past the aesthetics will find a unique puzzler that quickly ramps up the challenge despite the childish cover the game is given. There is a lot to enjoy beyond this complaint trying to block a ticked off cloud from withering his adversary fruit.
