Parking Mania is a unique and addictive driving app. It’s is categorized in the iTunes store as a Racing app, but to me it’s more like a driving app with a puzzle element. You have to figure out how to achieve goals like parking, or crossing a busy intersection and if you drive too fast you’ll hit something.

From the home screen, click on Options and then Controls. Here you can choose what type of steering wheel you want to use. The game defaults to the Accelerometer where you tilt your device in order to steer. There is also a traditional steering wheel that you can control with your left hand or a “dragging wheel” that works by dragging to one side or the other to turn left or right. I played the first 12 screens using the Accelerometer before I realized how to change the steering. While its physics engine is extremely sensitive and accurate, I think I prefer the regular steering wheel. Though the danger with the steering while is I tend to drive a little faster because it’s easier to control and driving faster opens up the potential for car accidents. Another nice thing about the steering wheel is you can let go and it puts you right back into going straight.
On the right hand side of the screen there is a slider where you can push the pedal forward to press on the gas and pull it backwards to reverse. You have a lot of leeway to take it slowly and avoid crashing.
When your car is driving from the bottom of the screen to the top of the screen, right and left behave as they should. When you are driving from the top to the bottom however, your right and left is reversed. Try to pick up coins for extra points as you go.
I was surprised to discover how entertained I am by Parking Mania. There are 160 levels and quite a variety of vehicles to park. I haven’t encountered the 18 wheeler yet or the RV, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
