MADDEN NFL ’12 for the iPhone is a highly entertaining game that features all the superstars of today’s NFL. The Madden football series has been around since 1998 and is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. It’s your classic football game and allows you do something on the iPhone that some games don’t allow you to do, which is actually play the sport you are interested in playing. It’s straight up 11 on 11 good old fashion pigskin.
This version of Madden features Exhibition, TD Challenge, Season, Playoffs and Multi-player modes. I played in Exhibition mode so I could play with and against the teams of my choosing. You start off by picking which team you’d like to play with and your opponent. You can pick the time of day, weather conditions and uniform your team will sport. From there it is just like a normal game of NFL football.
As with past versions of Madden for different game consoles, I really enjoyed this game. It’s always fun to play with your favorite players and feel like you are guiding your team to a win. One particular aspect I loved about this game was the ability to draw up routes for your receivers right on the screen. While on offense you can look at an overview of the field, select a particular receiver and draw a specific route for him. I did find the games at time to be a little bit easy. I ran some teams into the ground in a pretty solid way. It could just be that the level of difficulty isn’t that high on the game, or I’m the most adept play caller with the West Coast offense since Bill Walsh, which is entirely possible. After playing this game a few times it was quickly on my list of things to do while waiting for anything. If you are a true fan of sports games, you won’t be disappointed you added this to your mobile device.
