I avoided Doodle Jump for quite some time, and I’m not quite sure why. I’ll admit it looked a little silly and I didn’t think that I would enjoy it. However, that is quite the contrary. I really enjoy Doodle Jump for several reasons. First off I have a brand new baby that sleeps all the time. So basically I was really hoping for a fun game that I could play one handed (because I’m holding the baby in the other!). Doodle Jump is exactly what it says. It looks like it’s drawn on notebook paper so it has a very retro feel. The idea behind the game is to use your doodle guy (don’t know if he has a name), to jump higher and higher. You do so by tilting your phone left and right to get to certain platforms, and or special items that help you get higher and higher. Sometimes you encounter monsters along the way, in which case you tap the screen in their direction to shoot at them with your “doodle mouth”. It’s a little hilarious and a lot of great fun. This game is simple enough to not only be great for adults but great for kids as well. There is no violence or anything when you shoot at the fake monsters. All in all it’s a pretty well rounded funny game.
Doodle Jump Walkthrough / Guide
This one is pretty self explanatory. You jump from platform to platform in order to get higher and higher. However here are some things that may be good to know. The special items that are given along the way should be used, however beware. The special items are great for getting you up higher quickly (getting you more points), but when the special item ends make sure you have somewhere to land. Many times after using a special item you find yourself kind of dumped off in the middle of nowhere. Also many people try to stay within the screen. If there is a hard to reach obstacle you can always tilt left or right to make yourself go off the screen and appear on the other side; this can be a lifesaver in a tough spot. Make sure to keep your eyes open for monsters. Many times you think you can avoid them but it’s much easier and safer just to shoot them!
Graphics: Good. With a name like Doodle Jump you really shouldn’t be looking for anything amazing, considering its supposed to be doodled. However, for this type of game the graphics are great, and extremely smooth. The game runs very well for as much movement as is involved.
Sound/Music: Good. There’s nothing really of note with the sounds other than the sound effects used for different things. All the sounds are fairly high quality and do keep you interested.
Pros: Doodle Jump is a very clean and easy game. It’s a game that I would feel comfortable leaving with my kids, or playing by myself as well. The game runs very smoothly and keeps you interested.
Cons: Like most fast paced puzzle games it’s easy to get addicted which isn’t such a bad thing. However, if you don’t like the more simple games, then this may not be your thing.
Addiction Level: Medium/High – You can get easily addicted to this game, and there’s quite a bit to offer. It depends a bit on the games you like to play obviously!
