The Battleship app for iPad is based on the Milton Bradley game by the same name. It is a two-player app that can be played against the computer or against a live opponent. Both players place 5 ships on a grid out of view from the other. Take turns targeting the hidden ships by firing shots on the board. The first to destroy all 5 of the opposing player’s ship wins.
Battleship for iPad works just like the board game but better. There are 3 styles of gameplay. Classic, where you go back and forth placing one shot at a time. Salvo, where you start out firing 5 shots at a time, and then as you take ships down you have less shots per round. And Superwepons where you have a variety of ammunition to choose from. I found Salvo mode to be the most interesting for multi-player side by side mode. Going shot for shot is a little tedious and it’s more efficient to do 5 shots at a time. Though with that in mind, I realized I couldn’t place my ships super close together, because in Salvo mode after you make a strike, you generally place your next shots around the first hit. So if you have a couple ships side by side they’re potentially going to be found a lot easier.
If you enjoyed the original Battleship boardgame, you’re going to love Battleship for the iPad. Its great looking animated ships and artillery make for a fun modern day version of a classic game.
