Samurai vs. Zombies Defense is a side scrolling tower defense style app. I saw this app on the app store and decided to give it a try. I am not much for “defense” style gameplay but what the heck? I played the first level during the tutorial and was initially turned off by this game. You don’t really do much but walk back and forth and use special moves. However, and a big however, once you get into the 2nd, 3rd, etc levels is when the game becomes fun. The tutorial continues but it teaches you how to summon units to aid you. This made the game a whole lot of fun to play, and now I can totally see why people are into it and its challenges. As the levels get harder you have to manage calling your villagers/warriors, via your leadership, out to assist you in killing the zombies. What makes this defense style game different is that not only are you managing your troops, you yourself are attacking and defending as well. This game was a ton of fun, and I found myself playing it a past my normal “trial” period. This game was produced by Glu Mobile, and therefore is free. However, If you want the super cool stuff as you progress through the game, you will have to make some in app purchases. I personally found it rather easy to play the game without making any purchases.
Samurai vs. Zombies Defense Walkthrough / Guide
First off, the game gives a great tutorial that shows you exactly how to play. One thing the game didn’t seem to explain was the mini game that’s included, which is Pachinko! As you kill enemies and go through the game you earn Pachinko tokens. When you are in the game menus, there’s a little silver disk at the bottom of the screen (symbolizing tokens), click it and start throwing your tokens in the Pachinko machine to earn cash, and prizes. Samurai vs Zombies offense: During actual combat, try to make sure you have some “front line” soldiers. Meaning the normal soldiers should be out front. Don’t just summon archers or spear-men, although they do a lot of damage, they also die very easily. As you go through levels, you yourself can be involved in combat, but don’t try to soak up all the damage because you will die every time. Try to make an effort with your main character to walk past all the melee enemies and kill zombie spear-men or archers in the back. I found it a great asset to upgrade my bow early on, so that you can sit a little farther back and put out some heavy damage. Make sure to always use your special abilities (especially the shock one) when they become available. Try to group enemies up for the shock because it stuns them temporarily.
Graphics: Great. The graphics are pretty good. They are a cartoon style of graphics that are meant to be itense and sort of funny at the same time. The combat with the zombies is awesome to watch as well as participate in and the game runs smoothly.
Sound/Music: Great. All the sounds keep you pretty engaged in the game and nothing sounds fake or weird. I like the sounds your guys make as you summon them.
Pros: A free, fun game, and mini game? Yes Please.
Cons: In app purchasing kind of sucks, but you don’t HAVE to make purchases, you just WANT too.
